Committees & Task Groups

Committee Details &
Contact Emails [PDF]

Our Church Council has general oversight of the life and activities of our congregation, and particularly its worship life, to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Word of God and the faith and practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

As required by the ELCA model constitution, goals, objectives, and responsibilities of the Congregation Council, Audit Committee, Executive Committee, Mutual Ministry Committee, Nominating Committee, and Call Committee are detailed in the First Lutheran Church Constitution as approved by congregational vote in January 2019 and are, therefore, not included in this document. Those interested in learning more about leadership opportunities in any of these groups are encouraged to contact any current member of First Lutheran’s church council.

Congregational Stewardship

This is a brand new group! In fact, it is so new that a full description with goals, objectives, and responsibilities are still on the drawing board. The vision for this group is to focus on drawing us closer together as “church” through the things we do together to support FLC goals and objectives. More on that topic soon!

Education

Briefly stated, the education committee concentrates on teaching the word of God, whether it is via Sunday School lessons, Vacation Bible School, Bible Study classes, or other programs. Contact: education @ flcme.org

Emergency Preparedness

This ad hoc focus group seeks to increase our awareness of and preparation for both natural and man-made disasters. The group was formed to learn more about Emergency Preparedness plans as they relate to religious settings, and to develop a draft of an Emergency Preparedness policy to present to council for approval. Contact: prepare @ flcme.org

Fellowship

Creating community. Two words that aptly define the mission of our Fellowship Committee. The group nourishes our sense of Christian community by coordinating the Sunday morning fellowship hour and planning of other celebrations/receptions for welcomes, anniversaries, confirmations, farewells, funerals, and other special events. Contact: fellowship @ flcme.org

Financial Stewardship

Our Financial Stewardship Team watches over the financial health of the church. The group crunches numbers to be sure we put our financial resources to best use, ensuring that we conserve our resources and plan for adequate funds to support the ministry of the church.  Contact: finance-stewardship @ flcme.org

Give a Child a Chance

Give a Child a Chance helps neighborhood children in need to attend our First Lutheran Children’s Programs. As a self-sustaining team, they use a variety of approaches to raise funds—including RaiseRight gift cards, wooden sign-making parties and dine-outs.

See our Give a Child a Chance page for more info.

Outreach

We are a church active in our faith. We believe that God calls us to be stewards of God’s creation, care for people in need, and be a witness to our community and the world. The Outreach Committee directs the congregation’s work in witness and service within the congregation and in the greater community. Contact: outreach @ flcme.org

Property

The FLC Property Committee oversees the upkeep and maintenance of all church property, including the parsonage. They work directly with congregational volunteers, contractors, and paid staff to keep everything neat, clean, and in good working condition.  Contact: property @ flcme.org

Children’s Programs

First Lutheran Children’s Programs [FLCP] provides a safe, creative environment for children and youth, from toddlers to pre-teens. Through a diverse program provided by trained staff, First Lutheran Children’s Programs seeks to help each child achieve his/her potential in terms of emotional development, physical well-being, social and spiritual growth. Contact: flcpinfo @ flcme.org

Worship

The Worship Committee provides for meaningful worship services consistent with Lutheran doctrine, teachings, and heritage. The committee manages the music program and coordinates the work of our many Sunday morning volunteers. Contact: worship @ flcme.org
