The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with about 4 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Worship is at 10:00 AM every Sunday morning throughout the year. FMI
We are at 132 Auburn Street, Portland, Maine. See our DIRECTIONS page for a map and link to custom directions. When you arrive, you will find ample onsite parking along the north and west sides of the church building. A front entrance to the worship sanctuary faces Auburn Street, with a second entrance near the back of the building in the main parking area. When entering at the parking lot entrance, take a left just inside the doors. Follow the short hall down until you find the sanctuary entrance on the right. Oh… and there is no assigned seating, so pick any spot where you feel comfortable. And feel free to introduce yourself to those nearby.
We sing. We pray. We “share the peace”, which means we get up from our seats to greet each other with a warm handshake and a greeting. We listen to Scripture readings and a sermon that is usually about 10-15 minutes long. And we commune, sharing the Body and Blood of our Savior in the form of bread and wine [or grape juice, if you prefer!]. Of course, no one is required to do any of these things, but most folks find that participation results in a more fulfilling experience.
We offer a Children’s message time during worship. Children and youth are encouraged to assist in worship leadership, including serving as acolyte (lighting candles, assisting with offering), reading, and other activities. We offer periodic Cross+Generational Events that include all ages, such as the December Advent Wreath-making Events, as well as devotionals and other resources for parents and caring adults to share faith with children and youth. We also are strong supporters of and participants at Camp Calumet. Watch for more info to come!
